7th Division of Nigerian Army flags off Tree-planting Exercise

The 7th Division of the Nigerian Army has conducted a tree-planting exercise, as part of her efforts to improve on the quality of the natural surrounding in the barrack community and promote climate amelioration.

The exercise was flagged off by Major General Waidi Shaibu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7th Division and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force (JTF), North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).

The exercise, which entailed the symbolic planting of 52 Neem trees popularly known as “Dogonyaro” by the GOC, Formation and Unit Commanders as well as Principal Staff Offiicers of the Division, was carried out in Maimalari Military Cantonment.

 

 

Major General Shaibu said that the exercise was carried out in line with the Army Headquarters’ directives to plant trees that will serve as wind breakers in the Nigerian Army Barracks and Cantonments as the rainy season begins.

“Tree-planting creates a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing environment with natural barrier against windstorm and serves as shade for humans and animals as it moderates the effect of the sun,” said Major General Shaibu, while emphasizing the importance of planting trees.

The GOC, therefore, charged Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) of various Formations and Units under the Division to ensure that the thousands of trees mapped out for the exercise are well planted, monitored and taken care of.

The event had in attendance Brigadier General SY Yakasai, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, 7th Division; Bde Brig Gen IE Ekpeyong, Commander 47 Engineers; Commander 77 ST Bde Brig Gen AA Ekubi; Commander 37 Artillery Bde Brig Gen DB Suleiman; Commander Div Ordinance Service, Brig Gen RL Pam; Commander 107 Div Equipment Support, Brig Gen BI Alaya; Principal Staff Officers; Senior Officers; RSMs of various Formations and Units of 7th Division, Nigerian Army.
