Super Eagles Supporters Club Depart For Cameroun With 100 Members
Super Eagles Supporters Club advance party will depart for Garoau, venue of Nigeria’s Group matches in Cameroon 2022 African Cup of Nations, on January 5.
Players and officials of the Super Eagles will also arrive in Cameroun on January 5, six days before their opening group game against seven-time champions, Pharaohs of Egypt.
Super Eagles Supporters Club President, Vincent Okumagba stated yesterday, that 100 supporters will be in Cameroun for the AFCON.
“Our advance party of three members, led by the Club’s Public Relations Officer, who is the chairman of our AFCON 2022 Committee, will depart for Garoau on January 5,” Okumagba said.
According to him, their first batch of 60 members will leave on January 9, two days before the Super Eagles’ first match at the tournament.
Forty members of the Super Eagles Supporters Club will join the party later in Garoau.
Okumagba hinted that everything needed to make the Supporters Club members comfortable in Cameroun have been put in place.
The Super Eagles, led by caretaker coach, Austin Eguavoen, will open their training camp today in Abuja with Enyimba goalkeeper, John Noble, South Africa-based pair of Daniel Akpeyi and Olisa Ndah as well as Odion Ighalo from Saudi Arabia expected to be the early arrivals.
Majority of the 28 players picked for the tournament are expected to be released by their European clubs much closer to the team’s departure to Cameroun.
Rangers FC stars Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun, Zaidu Sanusi from FC Porto and Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are due to join up by January 3.
The team’s chaotic build-up means that it will be very difficult to arrange a decent warm-up game before their opening group game.
