The National President of the Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club, ANFASSC, Abayomi Ogunjimi says Super Eagles will not lack their usual support while competing for honour at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will kick off this Sunday in Cameroon, and Nigeria is among the twenty-four countries that will be participating in the Africa’s showpiece.

Speaking with Voice of Nigeria on his group preparation for the tournament, Ogunjimi said he had mobilised about five hundred of his people to cheer the Super Eagles to victory in the Central African Country.

“Nations Cup is one of our prides. In as much as we are talking about the pandemic, we are ready to cheer the Super Eagles to victory. I have been there already for the advance party to see what is going on in the city of Garoua, no enough hotels, but we will make sure that our people, about five hundred members will storm Garoua to drum support for the Super Eagles” He assured.

On the financial implications, Ogunjimi said it has not been easy for the group as he called on well spirited Nigerians, especially the coperate bodies and government to assist the group in actualising its objectives.

“Frankly speaking, it’s not easy. This is a selfless service to the nation; I have been doing these alone. We are asking spirited Nigerians, especially cooperate bodies and government to come and assist us in cheering the Eagles. Air Peace gave the Super Eagles a chartered flight to Cameroon, it is not complete without the supporters’ club. We are the 12th person on the field, we play integrate part in the success of the team, so we need assistance from people to cheer our team” he said.

On the chances of the Super Eagles at the tournament, he said with the caliber of the players in camp, he is hopeful the team can go all the way, probably bringing the trophy to Nigeria.

“Hopefully we can bring the trophy home. We can repeat what happened in 2013 when the late Stephen Keshi’s side was not given a chance. Joseph Yobo captained some young talented boys to victory in 2013. Why not, we can win the trophy”, Ogunjimi said.

The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations gets underway in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6 and Nigeria is in group D alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau.

Nigeria won the AFCON in 1980, 1994 and in 2013 and losing at the finals in 1984, 1988, 1990 and 2000.
