A political organization, the Coalition of Akko APC Support Groups, has commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for the giant strides made by his administration in the local government area. They say they are convinced that Gombe state now has responsible leadership.
Speaking with journalists in Gombe, the coalition’s Chairman, Mr Khalid Ahmed Kumo, said it was under the stewardship of Governor Yahaya that Akko Local Government Area was enjoying the dividends of democracy.
“We applaud him for the gigantic projects his administration is currently executing in Akko, which are; reconstruction of General Hospital Kumo and the construction of the College of Nursing in Gona district, among numerous others. With these, we are passing a ‘Vote of Confidence’ on the Governor and equally demand that he should heed our call to contest for a second term to continue with the work of repositioning Gombe state on the path of sustainable growth and progress, which he started,” said Ahmed Kumo.
In the meantime, the coalition called on Mr Dattuwa Ali Kumo, the serving Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya, to come out and contest for the membership of the House of Representatives in Akko Federal Constituency in 2023, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The Chairman of the coalition said the call became necessary given the situations in Gona and Pindiga Districts of Akko LocalGovernment Area, which according to them, lack purposeful and quality representation it deserved in the National Assembly.
“This has made it to become the most backward and poverty-stricken out of all the six federal constituencies in Gombe state. Data available has shown that we have the greatest number of jobless youth in the state with a majority of them turning into political thugs, phone snatchers and engaging in sorts of social vices,” said Ahmed Kumo.
He said because of the backwardness being witnessed in the area; the coalition would not allow such to continue since the area had people with multiple Competencies to give the Constituency its desired representation.
“We sneaked through the credentials of stakeholders in our party in Akko Local Government who are by law, legitimate to vie for any political office. Among all of them, we found that the only person who possessed the unique qualities a representative our Constituency in the national assembly ought to have, and who by all definition of standard, is equal to the task of representing us, is no other person than Hon. Dattuwa Ali Kumo, Sarkin Tafarkin Akko,” added Ali Kumo.
According to him, Ali Kumo had contributed enormously to the growth and development of Akko Local Government Area for a long time, with his philanthropic gestures spanning across the nooks and crannies of Akko and was being felt by the elderly, the youth, women and even children.
“In the build-up to the 2019 general elections, he has empowered over 1000 women through his skills acquisition programme initiated for youth and women. Beneficiaries were drawn from across all the eleven wards of the local government. These women were given sewing machines, some grinding machines, while others were given tools for the skill they acquired with a start capital each,” Ahmed Kumo.
Other interventions include training over 1000 youths in various trades and issuing capital to start their private business to become self-reliant. The singular act has taken the youths out of the streets and turned them into productive individuals in Akko Local Government Area Gombe State.
The coalition said Ali Kumo facilitated the approval of the Federal Government Survival Fund to 90 youths and women in the local government to enable them to start new businesses or improve on the existing ones. It earned him a series of commendations from people of all walks of life within and outside Akko Local Government Area.
As a philanthropist who has chosen the path of channelling his wealth to improve the lives of people in his society through several community interventions, he has removed a considerable sum out of his generosity and facilitated support to the lead-road of the Garin Modibbo community. In the recent recruitment at the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Hon. Dattuwa Ali Kumo secured permanent and pensionable appointments to many graduates from all the three districts in Akko Local Government Area,” said Ahmed Kumo.
He said it was because of these actions taken by Mr Dattuwa and many other reasons that the people in the area had become convinced of him being the best person to give representation they deserve in the national assembly.
