Ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s working visit to Ogun State on Thursday, January 13, the State government says it has in the last two years provided affordable houses for its citizens, in line with its policy of impacting their lives.

The State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Waheed Odusile disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Voice of Nigeria.

He told State House Correspondent, Timothy Choji, who is in Abeokuta the State capital ahead of President Buhari’s visit that the State is happy to host the Nigerian leader.

“Anywhere the President goes; it is a thing of joy for the people because it is not always or every day that you see the President of a country in your backyard.

“We are happy that he is coming here to inaugurate projects, what we have done, which the people are enjoying and are always saying this is a promise-keeping administration. We don’t promise to do everything but we do everything that we have promised.

“When the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun was sworn in on May 29, 2019, one of the promises he made specifically was that he was going to provide affordable houses for the people of the State.

“The target for four years was about 2500 housing units and as I speak to you, we have delivered 1,300 upward. Put together, that is more than what past administrations in the State from 1976 were able to do for the people and we did that within two years and these are affordable houses; two and three-bedroom apartments, ranging from six million naira,” he said.

The Commissioner noted that the houses being built by the State government are actually what the citizens need.

Odusile said: “We didn’t just jump into building houses for the people but the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, as part of his inclusiveness in governance, did ask the people, what type of houses do you want? And they gave us their specifications, which we took into consideration when we were constructing these houses. Now they are subscribing in large numbers.”

According to him, there is a strong synergy between all security agencies operating in the State including local vigilantes, to guarantee the safety of lives and property in all parts of the State.

He also said ICT hubs have been created across the State, for the youth to leverage on in order to ensure that they do not waste their skills or get involved in criminal activities.
