The wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has slated the maiden National Progressive Women’s Conference in Abuja from January 18 to January 19, 2022, to discuss gender inclusiveness in politics and the more significant role of women in governance.

Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Women’s Conference, 2022, announced this in a statement in Abuja.

According to the Chairman, the conference with the theme: “One Voice Uniting for Progress” was organised by the APC through Mrs Stella Okotete, the women representative in the party’s Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).

“The First Lady of Nigeria, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, will deliver the keynote address and the Vice President of Liberia, Dr Jewel Howard-Taylor, will share her experience as a top government functionary with participants at the conference,” she said.

According to her, more than 1000 women drawn from 36states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be attending the conference.

She said the conference, which is scheduled to hold on January 18 and January 19 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, would brainstorm ways to strengthen women’s political rights.

She further said that the conference would also address barriers to women participation in the political process under democratic systems and evolve strategies for getting women fully involved.

“More than 200 leaders from the three tiers of government in the country and some prominent businesswomen and captains of industries have confirmed participation in the conference.

“They will make presentations focused on inspiring and propelling women to greater successful forays into politics, governance and leadership roles in businesses,” she said.
