Armed Forces and Remembrance Day: Religious Leaders Pray for Repose of Fallen Heroes

The grand finale of 2022 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebration parade started with prayers from Religious Leaders  for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes and for God to restore peace in Nigeria.

The Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Defence on behalf of the Nigerian Government.

It serves as an avenue for honouring  fallen heroes who laid down their lives during the First and Second World Wars, Nigerian Civil War, Peace Support and various Internal Security Operations particularly the current war against terrorism that is threatening the corporate existence of the Nation.

The event is also used to honour the Veterans who are alive as well as solicit for financial support for their well being and the families of the fallen heroes.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria appreciates the commitment of the personnel that paid the supreme price in confronting the security challenges in Nigeria.

Acting Director Chaplain Roman Catholic Church, Reverend Father Colonel, Anthony Francis appreciated God for blessing Nigeria with Natural resources and the gift of men and women of the the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Colonel Francis also prayed that God should spare this country from chaos as there is strength in diversity.

Similarly, the Acting Director Islamic Affairs and Chief Imam of Nigeria Navy, Group Captain, Taofig Gidado said that “Allah is supreme and his supremacy is unchallengeable as he prayed that the sacrifices made by the fallen Heroes would not be in vain”.

The Chief Imam also prayed that Allah would grant the country peace and security as he prayed for the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.

The Director Protestant, Nigerian Air Forces, Air Commodore Dogo Barri said that “they stand as a Nation in solemn remembrance of great men and women who paid the supreme price for the unity, oneness and progress of this nation”.

He said also that “the sacrifices they paid shall not be in vain”.
 
However, he prayed for the leadership of the country for wisdom, courage and tenacity.

The National Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Abdul Bari said that “the Nigerian government is taking care of all the legionnaires as they always receive their entitlement every 28 days of every month”.

Furthermore, the National President Military Widows, Mrs. Veronica Aluko said that “she lost her husband since 2006 that seeing the pictures of those that paid the supreme, made her heart to bleed”.
 
Mrs Aluko said also that “widows do remember their husbands’ everyday but they need to be strong for their children.”

She called on the State government to support the widows for their husband contributed to the progress of the state before death took them away while defending the country.

As Nigerians have marked another year of remembrance for their fallen heroes as the President, Muhammadu Buhari led dignitaries to lay wreath.

It was a solemn event where top government officials and members of the diplomatic corps took turns to remember these Nigerians who paid the supreme sacrifice so that there will be peace in the country.
