Sierra Leone players in training

The Ivorian Elephants face Sierra Leone Stars in Douala, as Match Day 2 of Group E of the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), kicks off at the Japoma Stadium on Sunday.

Côte d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone’s only previous encounter in the Africa Cup of Nations took place in the group phase of the 1994 tournament — The Elephants won 4-0. Côte d’Ivoire are looking to win its first two group games in a single edition for the first time since 2013.

Following their 0-0 draw with Algeria in their first match, Sierra Leone have now failed to score in five of their six AFCON games (W1 D2 L3), only doing so against Burkina Faso in 1996 (2-1).

Algeria vs Equatorial Guinea, 8 p.m

Algeria football squad

Holders Algeria face Equatorial Guinea in the Match Day 2 of Group E at the Japoma Stadium in Douala. This will be the first encounter between Algeria and Equatorial Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Algeria are unbeaten in nine Africa Cup of Nations matches (W6 D3), since a 2-1 defeat against Tunisia in January 2017. Equatorial Guinea have only won one of their last five Africa Cup of Nations group-stage games (D2 L2), having previously won their very first two matches in the competition in 2012.

Group F

Gambia vs Mali, 2 p.m

Mali players in training

After two identical 1-0 victories in the opening match day, Gambia and Mali enter the second round of Group F matches with high hopes of another win that could see them paving the way towards the next round in style. The match will be played at the Limbe Stadium in Limbe.

This will be the first encounter between Gambia and Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations. After its 1-0 victory against Mauritania, Gambia are looking to become the first debutants to win tits first two matches at the Africa Cup of Nations since Equatorial Guinea in 2012.

Mali have won three of their last five matches at the Africa Cup of Nations (D1 L1), as many victories as in their previous 15 in the competition (D8 L4).

Tunisia vs Mauritania, 5 p.m.

Tunisia football squad

After disappointing identical 1-0 defeats to Mali and Gambia respectively, Tunisia and Mauritania go to the Africa Cup of Nations Group F Match Day 2 with no room for error at the Limbe Stadium, Limbe.

On Sunday could be the last chance for both sides if they are to revive their Round of 16 qualification hopes. The defeat to Mali was a bitter pill to swallow for the Carthage Eagles. But the Tunisians are still having all to play for, starting from this Sunday when they face Mauritania with one thing in mind; get back to the right track.

To avoid what they witnessed in their maiden AFCON appearance in Egypt 2019, Mauritania need to revive against Tunisia in what seems to be a very tough mission.
