Lagos Organises Retreat For Union Leaders

The Lagos State Government has organised a three-day retreat for Union leaders to promote industrial harmony in the State.

 

The retreat organised by the Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions is with the theme ‘’Employer\Employee Relations in the New World of Work.’’

 

Speaking at the event held at the Crown City Park Resort and Hotel, Agbara Lagos, Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour and Industrial relations, Mr. Babatunde Williams explained that the retreat, an annual event was organised to network, socialise and engage in productive interaction with government officials, in order to forge a symbiotic bond.

Williams mentioned that apart from the bond it would create, the retreat would also avail the labour leaders the opportunity to refresh and upgrade their knowledge on current trend in Labor and Industrial relations practices particularly reference to the management of Employer\Employee relations in dynamic world of work.

 

Interaction

The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola appreciated the Ministry and the Union for allowing a space for interaction which according to him would engender harmony.

 

Muri-Okunola who was represented at the event by the Permanent secretary Public Service Office, Mr Samson Ajibade said that the role of labour union is very key, who serves as the representative of the entire workforce.

 

He enjoined the union to always ensure cohesive working relationship at all levels, stressing that they could position themselves to advise the government on key areas for development since they are partners in progress.

 

The Chairman Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Comrade Rahmon Balogun, commended the State Government for the initiative, noting that the programme has become a yearly event in the State Government’s calendar.

 

Balogun acknowledged that Lagos State remains the only State to organised such event in the whole federation, stressing that the resolve of the State Government under the leadership of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to train and re-train union leaders as a way of building lasting peace and harmonious working relationship is highly commendable.
