Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has disclosed his administration’s intention to use the state’s common wealth for the good of the people in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
Makinde made the disclosure, on Tuesday, while addressing members of the Iseyin Development Union, led by the traditional ruler, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Adekunle Abdulganiy, who came on a “thank you” visit to the governor, at the Governor’s Office, Agodi State Secretariat, Ibadan.
While addressing the Iseyin people, Governor Makinde maintained that residents of Iseyin and all other towns in the state should expect more monumental projects across the state, saying all zones in the state would witness rapid development under his watch.
The visitors had stormed the Governor’s Office with drums and fanfare, full of numerous campaign songs eulogising the governor for the various feats and impact on the state and particularly to the region.
Expressing his appreciation to the visitors, Makinde reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the common wealth of the state is used for the common good of residents.
The governor stated: “It is your money that is working, not the money of Seyi Makinde’s father. It is our common wealth and the essence of government is to use the common wealth for the common good of our people and this is what we will continue to do as an administration. The only thing we can do as a government is to leave the state better than we met it.”
He also harped on his belief that Iseyin occupied a pivotal position in the map of the state, adding that his administration believed in opening and developing other zones so as to decongest and free Ibadan, the state capital city.
The governor particularly noted that his administration bore in mind the need to give attention to the Ado Awaye suspended lake, the Ikere Gorge Dam and other infrastructure that would attract investment into the state.
Monumental projects
Speaking earlier, the National President, Iseyin Development Union, Mr Bayo Raji, said Iseyin indigenes were at the Governor’s Office to appreciate Makinde’s benevolence, saying: “Iseyin has never had it so good since independence.”
Raji said the people of Iseyin are full of thanks for the “various monumental projects” such as the Iseyin-Moniya Road, the siting of LAUTECH College of Agriculture and Renewable Resources in Iseyin, on-going Iseyin-Oyo Road reconstruction, construction of the Iseyin- Fapote-Ogbomoso road, Saki Ogbooro-Igboho road and street light electrification within Iseyin.
Also speaking, another Iseyin indigene, Senator Gbenga Babalola, said the Makinde administration had erased initial skepticism about his performance when he emerged governor, noting that the governor has stood out by running his administration on the principle of fairness.
He stated: “We cannot but identify ourselves with you. When you were seeking election, we were skeptical because we have always been inundated with promises that were never kept. But since you became governor, you have shown fairness. You have inculcated fairness in governance.”
Babalola also conveyed the approval of the Aseyin-in-Council to confer the chieftaincy title of Aare Atunluto of Iseyin on Makinde and Yeye Aare Atunluto of Iseyin on his wife.
