The Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) has said the country will soon begin the exportation of rice to other countries, following the ongoing rice revolution in the country.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, Secretary to the Kano State Chairman of RIFAN, Ado Hassan, said Nigeria is the highest rice-growing country in Africa adding that the nation could gain foreign exchange from exporting the commodity to other countries.

According to him, gone are the days when the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) spends about N1 billion to support rice import bills. Also, Hassan dismissed the insinuation that the rice pyramid on display at the mega rice show in Abuja was not all rice saying the commodity was brought in by rice farmers across Nigeria.

“Today the apex bank is no longer spending a kobo to support the importation of rice. Today, Nigeria has become the highest rice grower in the whole of Africa. That is a great achievement. “The rice here is from all over the country. RIFAN has always been real; it is not possible to deceive 200 million Nigerians with a project like this. The cultivation of rice is a reality and it will continue to happen,”

Meanwhile, he assured that with continuous government investments in rice production, the price of the commodity will soon fall.
