The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), is set to launch an operation against indiscriminate refuse dumping on road medians, unapproved locations and at illegal dumpsite.

This development is due to the various complaints received by the Agency on the dirtiness of Ilorin metropolis.

The General Manager of the Agency, Alhaji Sa’ad Ayuba Dan-Musa,  explained that it is the duty of the Agency to use laws to sanction those that erred to this effect, the Mobile court will be used to deal with those caught perpetrating the  act of indiscriminate dumping of wastes.

During an interview, Ayuba Dan-Musa disclosed that no act of gross indecency targeted at defacing the Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration will be tolerated.

Dan-Musa told newsmen that it is not the duty of the government to evacuate household waste but the duty of commercial waste managers and in view of this, more waste managers have been engaged to cover all parts of the state.

“Food outlets also fond of dumping food wrappers and wastes from their outlets in public space should take caution and desist from such” he said.

He stated that it is important for citizens to patronise the waste managers allocated to their zones and to ensure compliance and that officers will be out to arrest non-compliant citizens beginning from January.
