33 Corps members of the 2021 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nasarawa state are to extend or repeat their service year for absconding from their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) and other disciplinary issues during the service year.
Nasarawa state coordinator of the scheme Mr. Abdullahi Jikamshi, stated this during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 2021 Batch “A” Corps members.
Jikamshi said the affected corps members will have their service year extended or repeat the entire service year depending on the gravity of the acts of indiscipline committed.
“Conversely, there are those who apparently failed to internalize the spirit and discipline, becoming of members of the NYSC as entrenched in our multi-faceted trainings.
“33 of them will receive what is due to them, ranging from extension, to repeat of the service year in accordance with the provisions of the NYSC Bye-Laws,” he said.
He however also applauded the corps members who successfully completed the service year without any disciplinary issue, urging them to be good ambassadors of the scheme wherever they find themselves.
“I wish you God’s grace as you enter into the labour market, may you be highly favoured. For those of you who have decided to be entrepreneurs and not job seekers, may you be equally fruitful in your endeavours,” he said.
Jikamshi revealed that a total of 1,142 corps members successfully completed the service.
He said the scheme was already preparing to receive another batch of corps members in a week’s time.
Invaluable service
In his address, Nasarawa state Governor Abdullahi Sule represented by the state Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Mr Lucky Isaac applauded the outgoing corps members for the invaluable, sacrificial service offered by the outgoing corps members to the state.
“The many life transforming projects you carried out have no doubt contributed to the development of many of our communities.
“In some cases, a number of you stepped down life changing skills you acquired through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the NYSC, teaching members of your host communities the skills that will empower them economically,” he said.
He also acknowledged the critical role played by corps members in the state’s health sector, including the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme.
“Under the auspices of this programme, you are complimenting our efforts towards ensuring that all our people have access to basic medical care in no small measure,”.
The governor noted that he did not receive any adverse reports about the conducts of Corps members in the state.
He acknowledged with immense appreciation the invaluable contributions of corps members to the development of the state.
