A High Court in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has adjourned indefinitely a case bordering on the control of the Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
There are three factions currently claiming control of the party in Sokoto state.
One of the factions is that of Alhaji Isa Acida who is a loyalist to the immediate past governor of the state and current Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aliyu Wamakko.
There is also the Mainasara Sani faction loyal to former Senator Isa Abubakar Gada and the Sirajo Abubakar faction loyal to the current House of Representative member, Honourable Balarabe Salame in conjunction with the incumbent speaker of the State House of Assembly.
The Sirajo Abubakar faction had appealed the earlier judgement of the FCT High Court of 16th December last year that affirmed the Mr. Mainasara Sani faction as the APC Executives.
Meanwhile, the Alhaji Isa Acida faction brought the application before the FCT High Court as an interested party seeking the court to set aside the judgement of December 16, since the matter remains pending at the court of Appeal.
Justice A.O. Musa in a ruling on Thursday, February 17, stated that “since the appeal has already gotten to the Appeal court, the FCT High Court has no jurisdiction to hear the case and does not want to find itself in collision with the court of Appeal.”
The judge urged the petitioners to approach the the Appeal court on the matter as it is also not a pre – election matter.
Both counsels who were present at the Thursday’s ruling declined to comment to the media on the ruling.
The APC leadership in Sokoto State was not part of the inaugurated new State Executives recently issued certificates of return at the APC Headquarters in Abuja.
