Cyberstalking Allegation: Nigerian Government arraigns HEDA Chairman, Suraju
Salihu Ali, Abuja
The Nigerian government has arraigned the Chairman of Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), Mr Olanrewaju Suraju, for allegedly cyberstalking former Nigeria’s Attorney General Mr Mohammed Adoke.
Mr Suraju was brought before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on a 2-count amended charge.
One of the counts accused Mr Suraju of circulating via his Twitter handle @HEDAagenda, a false audio telephone interview between Mr Adoke and a reporter with RIA Reporter in Italy Ms. Carlamaria Rumur thereby committing an offence contrary to section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention ETC,) Act 2015 and punishable under the same section of the Act.
The second count charge accused the defendant of committing the same offence in count one via the Facebook handle @HEDAResourcecentre.
Meanwhile, Justice Binta Nyako has granted bail to Suraju following the passionate plea of his lawyer Mr Luiz Banire SAN.
The court however ordered that Defendant should tender the cheque of N7m to the court’s registrar, being the highest sum for a penalty of the offence.
The matter has been adjourned to May 10, for hearing.
