About 1,900 Communities are to benefit from the hydroelectric power producing areas development Commission HYPADEC scheme across the 6 States in efforts to improve the livelihood of the communities.

 

This was stated by the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Commission Alhaji Abubakar Sadeeq Yelwa, during a workshop for the newly employed staff of the commission in Minna the Niger State Capital.

 

Alhaji Yelwa also urged the new employees on the need to make tremendous effort towards achieving the main goals of the Commission which includes “improving access to social services of the targeted communities of the HYPADEC, enhance sustainable agricultural productivity ,accelerate economic growth, increase food security,and to  reduce rural poverty”.

 

The HYPADEC Managing Director, who further said similar workshop for sensitising the new employees of the Commission was organised across the 19 area offices of the Commission said “HYPADEC covers 6 states of Niger, Kogi, Kwara,Plateu and Benue in the North Central part of Nigeria, then Kebbi State in North western Nigeria”.

He also assured hydro dam communities of the plans to urgently implement all measures approved for the development of hydroelectric power producing areas by the government,  appealed to them on the need to be patient as the commission embarks on its developmental plans as and when due.

 

Alhaji Sadeeq Yelwa who commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts in providing funds for the take-off of the commission after 12 years of establishment, urged the government on the need for adequate funding of the commission to achieve the desired aim of the agency.

 

The Hydroelectric power producing areas development commission,

HYPADEC establishment act 87 of 2010 was charged with the responsibility of managing the ecological menace due to dams operations and other hydroelectric power activity in the power producing areas of Nigeria.
