The National Association of Niger State Students NANISS in North Central Nigeria, has urged the Niger state government to declare a state of emergency on the education sector

The National President of NANISS, Comrade Saliha Buhari stated this during a media briefing in Minna the state capital.

She explained that this became necessary because; “The education sector has been relegated to the background.

According to her, primary school teachers in Niger state have been on strike for the past eleven weeks while alleging that in the last 39 months, the Niger state government only allocated scholarships 9 times which are all below 20 million naira for students population of approximately 1.2 million.

“WAEC results for 2020/2021  are yet to be released to the candidates since November 2021, because of government failure to pay some pending balance for previous years.

The Association, therefore, gave the state government a 6-day ultimatum to respond to its demand or face mass students’ protests in the state capital.

She disclosed that during the protest they would ground all major roads leading to other parts of the country through the state.
