Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde says his administration would continue to fulfil its mandate, part of which, he said, is controlling rural-urban migration, by ensuring good road network and inter-connectivity outside the Ibadan Zone.

Governor Makinde disclosed this, on Thursday, during the commissioning of the 5.25 kilometre Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa road, Oyo Town in the Atiba Local Government Area of the state.

The governor maintained that his administration has embarked on the delivery of massive road infrastructure across the state to expand the economy of the state, noting that in less than three years, his government had been able to construct over 550 kilometers of roads, both completed and ongoing.

Governor Makinde asserted that his administration had raised the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by a record N15 billion in 2 years, made possible due to improved road networks through rehabilitations, reconstructions and construction.

He noted: “We have successfully laid the proper foundation for engineering a modern Oyo State. We believe that anywhere that roads go, development follows. When people hear that this road is 5.2kilometres, they might say, oh, it is a small road. This Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa road links Oyo West and Atiba Local Government Areas in Oyo. It also links the North-South Federal A1 road, route 2, connecting Oyo-Iseyin and Ogbomoso-Iseyin roads.”

Makinde, who promised that his government would continue to prioritise road infrastructure development across the zones in the state, disclosed that his administration has successfully laid the proper foundation for engineering a modern Oyo State.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Mohammed, who commissioned the newly rehabilitated road, lauded Governor Makinde for executing people-oriented programmes and urged him keep building on the good projects so that the people of Oyo State would continue to feel the impact of good governance.

Sen. Bala Mohammed stated: “Oyo is a centre of civilisation. If you look at our inter-relationship as a nation; between various partners in the Nigerian project, Oyo is the centre of everything. The relationship between Northern Nigeria, where I came from and the Yoruba land, is incubated under the auspices of our leaders in history, from Alaafin of Oyo, down to Ogbomoso.

“So, I congratulate the people of Oyo State for electing a man, who is showing that Oyo State is the centre of civilisation. He has become the centre-point of our reference point as governors, as he came into governance with a plan. He is using the available resources to improve the quality of life of the people,” he declared.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Public Infrastructure and Transport, Prof. Dahud Sangodoyin, said the 5.25 kilometre road was expanded from 8m to 12.3m, with 7.3m carriageway and 2.5m shoulder on each side of the carriageway, noting that the project was funded through the Alternative Project Funding Approach on a build, design and finance basis.

In his welcome address, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, who spoke on behalf of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, commended Makinde for his passion to develop the state and running an inclusive government and charged the people of Oyo Town to always fulfil all their civic responsibilities in the most exemplary ways.
