NPFL to go on two-week break

The League Management Company (LMC) has announced a two-week break to enable players of topflight clubs to recharge their batteries when the first round of the season ends this weekend.

Matchday 19 games are billed for this weekend across 10 match venues but the second round of the season is expected to begin on April 3rd with Matchday 20 while Matchday 21 is slated for midweek, April 6th.

This implies that the second stanza of the League, starting from Matchday 20, will now kick-off on Sunday, 3rd April while the Matchday 21 fixture will hold on Wednesday, 6th.

In a letter sent to various 20 NPFL clubs and signed by the LMC’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Salihu Abubakar the league organizing body said that subsequent arrangements in the remaining fixtures remain unchanged.

With a game to the end of the first stanza, Rivers United who hosts Akwa United in Port Harcourt on Sunday are atop the league table with 39 points with Plateau United who are equally at home to Sunshine Stars this weekend are second with 38 points with Enugu Rangers, Kwara United and Remo Stars occupy the top five. Lobi Stars, Heartland, Dakkada, and MFM are presently in the relegation zone.
