The Africa Media Development Foundation, (AMDF) has trained 25 Journalists on leadership and management skills in Kaduna State.

The two-day training programme which is in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna Council was aimed towards improving participants’ mentoring and coaching skills.

The Journalists were also trained on conflict management, supervision and delegation of tasks.

One of the resource persons who doubles as the Executive Director of the foundation, Mr Iliya Kure explained that leadership is the ability to influence the behaviour and way of work of other people towards achieving a common goal.

He advised the participants who were mainly the executives of the NUJ council and chairmen of all chapels within Kaduna to ensure they have a shared vision that could be inherited by their successors when they leave office.

Kure urged them to adopt the spirit of coaching and mentoring others who could perform their exact roles in their absence.

According to him, leadership is about creating two things; which are inspiration and result, but participants are expected to strive hard to motivate their members in order to maintain a goal-oriented behaviour.

A participant, who is also the Chairman of the NUJ Kaduna Council, Asma’u Halilu urged the trainees to utilize the knowledge gained in running the affairs of their different chapels.

She said the leadership of the council had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding to train all executives and subsequently members from different chapels within the three years of their tenure.

“The terms of the MoU is expected to last throughout the tenure of the new leadership but shall be reviewed yearly to ensure it fulfils its purpose,” the NUJ Kaduna Council Chairman added.

Meanwhile, Senator Uba Sani, representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has donated a car to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council.

Senator Sani, through his Chief Zonal Constituency Officer, Abubakar Rabiu said the car is meant to enhance mobility of the Council in ensuring delivery of their mandate of gathering and disseminating information to the public.

He explained that the gesture of providing mobility for the NUJ Kaduna Council was borne out of the long relationship he had with journalists.

“We felt the donation is our own way of contributing to help effective and prompt information dissemination by the Council as well as organising the affairs of the public through enlightenment to know the actualities going on in governance in Kaduna.

Sani mentioned that the donation was also aimed at motivating women considering the Kaduna Council having the first female Chairman piloting the affairs of the council.

“Like you all know, i and the Governor of Kaduna State always want to see females holding offices in Government and piloting the affairs of strategic places in the society.

“We are very passionate about the media and that informed our idea of the donation, having making all possibilities to attend to media engagements when invited.

“The donation is only coinciding with the 59 cars we donated two days ago for our campaigns, we are actually passionate about progress of Journalists and this is not our first time of contributing in one way or the other for their success,” Sani emphasized.
