Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport: Cabinet endorses N92.12 billion for construction of second runway

Nigeria’s Cabinet has approved the construction of a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at the contract sum of over N92.12 billion.

The approval was given at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who briefed State House correspondents after the meeting, said that the contract was divided into five lots and would be completed in 12 months.

 

“For Lot A, we have the construction of the runway, taxiways, links, fencing of the operation area of that particular runway, not the entire port, internal perimeter, crash roads, service roads, services and drainage. 

“This is awarded to Messrs Civil Engineering Construction Company Ltd, CECC, at the sum N72, 341, 479, 217. 22k.”

Sirika said that Lot B of the contract was for the construction of a water pumping station, with a reservoir, water supply reticulation and fire-fighting hydrants.

He disclosed that the contract for this lot was awarded to Messrs Trimark Engineering Services Ltd, and it is for the sum of N1, 789, 374, 587.50k.

“Lot C is for the procurement and installation of airfield lighting, AFL; navigational aids, communication and meteorological equipment, procurement, installation and training,” Sirika said, adding that the package is for the sum of N10.5 billion.

For Lot D, a contract was awarded for the provision of power supply, high voltage, medium voltage, low voltage and tertiary, including the construction of power stations with AFL switch room.

The project is awarded in the sum of N6.8 billion

The contract sum for Lot E which is about N712.6 million, is for the procurement, commissioning as well as training.
