Two aspirants vying for National Chairmanship of the Nigerian All Progressives Congress, APC, have pledged to transform and reposition the party to serve Nigerians.
Former Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State and Saliu Mustapha from Kwara State pledged when they met with members of the party’s Caucus of the House of representatives to solicit their support at the forthcoming party’s National Convention.
The party’s ambition
Addressing the Caucus, Saliu Mustapha reminded them that transition time is very critical and tricky. Therefore, the party must put its act together and devise more strategies to win all elections in 2023.
Mustapha added that members of the party must have unity of purpose that will guarantee its victory by electing a leadership that will entrench discipline and ensures equity, fairness, and justice.
“The party must also ensure continuity in the ranks of its elected representatives as bringing new faces at every turn would bring dislocations in the flow of its achievements.
“APC must also ensure the entrenchment of internal democracy which he said will ensure members’ confidence and their loyalty,” he added.
Mustapha’s Pledge
Mustapha also promised to develop a constant consultation mechanism that will allow members to interact and share ideas at fixed intervals to provide opportunities for them to drive the party forward. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who received the APC Chairmanship aspirant alongside the Chief Whip, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Deputy Leader, Peter Akpatason, and other members of the Caucus, said, Mustapha was a seasoned democrat who played a significant role in the formation of the APC.
According to him, the candidate who was a member of the defunct CPC and ANPP had garnered enough experience to steer the party’s affairs if elected its chairman.
Ex- Zamfara State Governor’s goals
While addressing the members, the former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, informed the Caucus that he would use the experience he garnered when he was a member of the legislature and Governor to reposition and transform the party.
Yari explained that his experience in the elective positions he held had taught him a lot and guided him in discharging his duties in various capacities. “It helps me a lot more, especially in prioritizing allocation of funds. So, I learned a lot, and it helped me a lot in governance in governing the State.
“I know I can interact within and outside the party and I can work with every one of you for the best of our party and the best of ourselves.”
