Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has urged Muslims in the state and Nigeria to pray against the insurgency ravaging the country, while also felicitating them for witnessing the commencement of another Ramadan fast.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Taiwo Adisa, Governor Makinde urged Islamic faithful to pray relentlessly during the fasting period and specifically beseech the Almighty Allah to show mercy on Nigerians.
The governor noted that Muslims must embrace the piety demanded of them during the Ramadan and use the month-long fasting period to pray for the peace of the state and the country, saying sacrifice and increased prayers are important and critical at the present time when the country is fighting insurgency and banditry.
He said: “I am happy to see that Muslims in the state and across Nigeria are able to join their counterparts across the world to observe this year’s Ramadan fast.”
“It is a thing of joy to note that that our Muslim brothers would be able to gather for Tafsir, Iftar and Tarawih prayers, unlike the recent past when they were prevented by certain restrictions as a result of global health concerns,” Makinde stated.
The governor admonished Muslims to tune their minds to the messages of love, brotherliness and peaceful co-existence inherent in the messages of the Holy Prophet, while also being their brother’s keepers.
He further enjoined Muslims to extend their hands of fellowship to other Muslims and non-Muslims alike, even as they are expected to adhere strictly to abstinence from food and other things during the month of Ramadan.
