Tennis Federation Harps On Grassroots Sports For Talent Discovery
President of Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Ifedayo Akindoju, has urged clubs to focus on grassroots sporting events to harness young talents for sustainable sports development in the country.
Akindoju made the call in Abuja during the Annual General Meeting of Abuja Country Club, where he was elected the new president.
He said that the Abuja Country club, established in 1980, had many coaches and was not just for recreation, but for youth empowerment and sports development. Akindoju said that some members of the club had participated and won medals at both national and international tournaments.
“We have lots of young talents all over the country and we need to harness them for proper development of their skills and sports in Nigeria,” Akindoju said.
The former NFT President, Sir Alex Osakwe, who led the Federation for over four years, said he was “excited” about the direction of the new leadership.
”I am excited that we have a good team that is taking over from me and I know that they will build on the legacy we are leaving behind,” Osakwe said.
