A Group under the Anambra Youth Promoters Assembly (AYPA) has called for equity, fairness, and rotation of the Federal Constituency seats among local government areas.
The group, which referred to the Njikoka, Anaocha, and Dunukofia Federal Constituency of Anambra State, described rotational political representation as a cardinal means of deepening the nation’s political inclusion and stability.
While canvassing for justice, fairness, and equity as it affects the constituency, the group stated that since the return of the nation to constitutional democracy in 1999, Dunukofia Council Area had never produced a Federal Lawmaker in the lower Legislative Chamber.
Speaking on behalf of the group, which also staged a peaceful protest at IfiteDunu Community near Awka, Cornel Ilokolobia argued that it was unacceptable to scheme out the council area from the power equation in the constituency.
“So, therefore, it’s the turn of Dunukofia to benefit from the Federal Government projects by considering one of her sons.
“Hon Lawrence Ezeudu is worthy to represent the Federal Constituency in the 2023 general election after being on a supportive page for 24 years.”
He said, “Following a unanimous agreement on equity, fairness, and principle of rotation, it’s Dunukofia’s turn to produce the next House of Representatives member.”
In a remark, a Chieftain of All Progressives Congress(APC), Sam Oraegbunam, urged the constituents to support the party for effective representation and attraction of dividends of democracy.
He added that the party believes in democratic ideals, the welfare of the masses, and the entrenchment of a new socio-political order to effect positive changes in the nation, noting that a qualified member of the party from the area had shown interest to vie for the Lower Legislative Seat.
While appreciating the group for the peaceful solidarity Hon. Ezeudu promised that after consultation with stakeholders in the constituency, he would inform them of his 2023 political intention.
