Economic growth: Minister advocates support for young innovators

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami, has stressed the need for more collaboration between the executive and the legislative arm of government to address the challenges facing young innovators and entrepreneurs in the country.

Professor Pantami made this known at an interactive session with the leadership of the House of Representatives on a bill for the creation and development of Nigeria’s ICT Start-up System.

 

The Minister observed that young entrepreneurs in the country are facing challenges that require government intervention which need no financial support to eliminate.

“These young entrepreneurs are not seeking jobs from the government. In Fact they are employers not employees.

“So by implication if we support them, that would go a long way in creating many job opportunities for our citizens, because all the Start-ups are not in any way potential job employees but rather potential job providers.” Prof Pantami added.

 

The House Leader, AlHassan Ado-Doguwa, in a remark said the interaction was part of the consideration process that gives bill sponsors the opportunity to explain the intent and benefits of the legislative document.

The Bill, when became law, would provide the enabling environment for young entrepreneurs, particularly within the digital ecosystem to be successful and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
