Youths in southern Nigeria have been urged to support the presidential ambition of the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

The National Coordinator of Rescue Nigeria Mission, a youth group in support of Governor Bello, Abdullahi Damat made the call during a town hall for members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Damat urged the youths drawn from states in south-east and south-south Nigeria to stand with Yahaya Bello as a young politician, who has turned around the fortunes of the people of Kogi State.

Inclusiveness

According to him, Nigerians especially young people must learn to rise to the challenge of governance and lend support to vibrant youths like the governor of Kogi State, who has the capacity to nip the incessant cases of insecurity in the bud.

While speaking with newsmen after the meeting, he asserted, “there is nothing within the law that will stop us from taking Yahaya Bello to Aso Rock in 2023 because we know our country will grow to prosperity.

“My message to the south-south and south-east youths is that Yahaya Bello’s government is about inclusiveness. It is about bringing everybody onboard and to demonstrate this, we designed and developed an app on the google play store called RENMISS mobile application.

“On the app, we have more than 17 levels of engagements, where the president-in-waiting will empower many.

“Already, there are 14.3 million youths registered on the app and these youths are solidly behind our presidential aspirant.

“We need all the youths to download, register and have a unique identification number that will be used for all the empowerment.

“This is the first of its kind application in Africa and we have adopted a model of apprenticeship to solve Nigeria’s problems,” Damat stated.

NYCN support

In a goodwill message, the Cross River State NYCN chairman, Mr. Dan Obo noted that the youths were prepared to support Governor Bello as one of theirs, noting “youths have really been left out from the national scheme of things. As for us young people in Cross River, the future we want is now. It is true that Nigerians are suffering and so we need to get back Nigeria working again.”

Also, the Enugu State NYCN chairman, Mr. Igwe Eze, who spoke on behalf of the south-east region said, “we have seen a man whose zeal and commitment differs. He believes in the youths and we should give the governor all the support he needs.”

Similarly, the deputy chairman NYCN south-south, Mr. Solomon Isogo said, “as a leader of the south-south youths, Yahaya Bello is experienced enough in his youth inclusive governance. The youths of south-south are very much with him.”

Addressing the gathering, the south-south mobilization officer for Rescue Nigeria Mission, and University of Calabar lecturer, Professor Raphael Offiong said that now was the time for young Nigerians to seek political office.

“We need a post-civil war leader like him. Yahaya Bello is an epitome of domestication. He has no foreign based bank account; all his children are schooling in Nigeria.

“He is the first and only governor, who has a non-indigenous cabinet. I mean he has other people that are not from Kogi State on his executive council.

“We are supporting Governor Yahaya Bello because we want a young person to lead Nigeria,” he said.
