The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Mr Shehu Gabam, has enjoined Muslims to remain prayerful even beyond the Ramadan period for peace and stability to be restored.

Citing the state of insecurity and the economic downturn as part of the significant challenges facing the country, Mr Gabam, in his Eid Al Fitr message, urged Nigerians to “continue to pray for victims of violence and horrendous criminality, especially those helpless compatriots who have been held in captivity in their homes by insurgents, and those kidnapped in forests across the country.”

He also said that the country is “going through a transition period with campaigns and a general election which traditionally comes with challenges, and sometimes, disruptive violent acts.”

The National Chairman further called on the Nigerian government to intensify efforts to rescue those in captivity caused by violence, banditry and acts of criminality induced by political shenanigans.

He maintained that Nigerians must “recognise that the hard work of returning peace and stability to their besieged communities and every Nigerian compatriot, home and abroad must bear countryside.”

He reiterated that “New results demand a new approach, strategy, new people, new orientation, new thinking, and new processes that all the previous are what the SDP brings to the table towards national development. It’s the only credible alternative to getting the country out of its current socio-economic woes.

“The power to change the current negative condition of the country for good is in the thumbs of the Nigerian electorate,” he added.

Mr Gabam, however, stated that “Going by the prevailing sense of pervading disaffection occasioned by the apparent dashed hopes and expectations.

The Nigerian people have resolved to use the power of their votes in 2023 to change the state of the nation for good by going the way of a refreshing hope that the SDP offers.”
