The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has pardoned 90 inmates across Correctional Centres in the state, as a mark of the Sallah celebration.

Ganduje announced this when he visited the Gorondutse Correctional Centre on Monday, May 2, 2022 along with some members of the state Executive Council, party leaders and elders among other government dignitaries.

He directed them to report to the government and register for skills acquisition programmes stressing that more inmates would be pardoned “…in the next 70 days during Eid celebration.”

“Some of you have been pardoned because of ill-health, some because of age, some because of their inability to pay for fines placed on them and some were even on death row

“Though many of you were given training in one skill or the other, those of you who need further training should immediately go and register with the government for another round of skills acquisition.”

Governor Ganduje reminded them that the pardon was not only meant to decongest Correctional Centres but to also give them another chance to be of good character.

Traditional Ruler Calls For Prayers

Meanwhile, the Traditional Ruler, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero has called for prayers against insecurity.

He urged Nigerians, especially Muslims to intensify prayers for enhanced security of lives and properties across the nation.

The Emir stated this in a message shortly after observing the Eid prayers at the Kano Central Mosque.

He urged people to intensify prayers for enhanced security in Kano and other parts of the nation.

“I urge the general populace to be vigilant in their communities and report any suspicious moves to the concerned security agencies for prompt action.

The Traditional Ruler advised the people of Kano to enhance the cleanliness of their bodies and environment to curtail the spread of infectious diseases.

He was colourfully dressed and rode on a white horse from the Eid prayer ground at Kano Central Mosque, accompanied by district heads and other traditional title holders through designated routes in the ancient city.

The traditional procession usually followed by high sounding trumpets, bands and royal gunshots proceeded through the routes of Kofar Wambai, charanch, and izage which ended at the main entrance gate to the Palace, where he exchanged pleasantries with the Governor of Kano state, Umar Ganduge and other top government officials.

The Chief Imam of Kano State, Professor Sani Zarhadeen while delivering the Eid al-Fitr sermon earlier at the Kano Central Mosque Eid ground, urged Muslim ummah to live in peace with one another and exchange good gestures to the needy.

“The month of Ramadan has thought Muslim ummah good morals which should be extended even after Ramadan,’ he said.

He urged people to redouble their effort in praying for the peaceful coexistence of the nation.

Similar activities were held in the Four other Emirates of Gaya, Bichi, Karaye and Rano respectively.
