About Africa Day.
Also known as Africa Unity day, Africa day is a day to commemorate the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) the precursor to the African Union (AU). The Celebration began on the 25th of May, 1963 and has since been an avenue to showcase Africa and all it’s goodness.
The African Union theme for 2021 was ‘“The Arts, Culture And Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want.”
This year’s Africa Day is themed ‘the Year of Nutrition’. The 2022 theme of the year will be a good way for push advocacy to ensure gains made over the years in eliminating nutrition and all its forms are not reversed.
Formerly Africa freedom day, Africa Day is a day for all African countries. However, Africa Day is observed as a public holiday in only twelve African countries, Ghana, Mali, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Chad, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Lesotho, Liberia and Mauritania.
