The Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has decried the hike in the market prices of farm inputs, saying the development has left farmers struggling to cope with farming activities.

Specifically, the NLC state Chairman, Comrade Yakubu Garba, said farmers could no longer cope with the hike in prices of farm inputs such as fertilizers, insecticides and seedlings, among others.

Garba spoke at an event to commemorate the International Workers’ Day held in Minna, the state capital.

Drawing the attention of the state government to the plights of farmers, the Niger State NLC chairman stressed the need for the state government to subsidize farm inputs for farmers across the state to guarantee a bumper harvest.

Furthermore, Garba said this was vital as agriculture was the most critical sector of the state’s economy due to the large population that depends on farming to survive.
