The Nigerian Red Cross Society has recommended conflict resolution, reconciliation and guaranteed peace as cardinal means of ensuring national stability in the wake of security threats across the nation.

Prof Peter Katchy, Anambra State Chairman of the Society, made the observation during the commemoration of World Red Cross Day, in Awka, the State Capital.

He pointed out that the present security situation was a clear threat to national peace as conflicts and violence had forced people leave their homes in search safety as Internally Displaced Persons(IDP).

While describing the theme for this year’s celebration “Be Human, Kind to achieve truce and peace” as apt, he called on every citizen to be involved in the campaign to restore peace across the nation.

Dialogue, treaty and equity are integral to achieving peace in this present time, as development and peace are interdependent and mutually reinforcing sustainable economy.

“Total conflict resolution provides the foundation for lasting peace which reinforces viable sustainable development that liberates the resources needed for national development, peace and progress” Prof Katchy said

He used the occasion to reiterate the commitment of the Society to respond to emergencies, health and social care, first aid, preventing and mitigating for disasters as well as  refugee services.

In a goodwill message, a retired Chief Judge of the State and Life Member of the Society,  Justice Paul Obidigwe, commended various stakeholders for providing assistance and support services needed for effective discharge of their duties,  noting that they would continue to record more success stories.
