Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress APC, has set May 23 to screen its 28 presidential aspirants.
The APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Argungu stated this during the inauguration of the screening committees for its Governorship, Senate and House of Representatives aspirants.
According to Argungu, the APC has 28 Presidential aspirants, however, some are already stepping down.
“The screening for the presidential aspirants, we have so far 28 presidential aspirants and as you are all aware, some aspirants have started withdrawing their aspirations and by God’s grace on 23rd of this month they will be screened those that are left for the screening properly,” Argungu said.
Meanwhile, screening for the Gubernatorial, Senate and House of Representatives members have started at different locations in Abuja.
The APC has set up 3 panels to screen its 145 governorship aspirants. For the 351 Senatorial aspirants, the party set up 4 panels. And for the House of Representatives, the APC has 10 panels to screen the 1197 aspirants.
on behalf of the APC National Chairman at the inauguration, the APC Deputy Chairman North, Abubakar Kayri charged the committee to do a thorough job for APC to present strong candidates for the 2023 General Election.
“We have a very strong party, we have a big party. And we’re committed that we deliver the right candidates for the forthcoming elections. We do not doubt that the distinguished ladies and gentlemen assembled here will do just that. I would like to at this point plead with you to be patient and screen thoroughly so that we can have the best of the best” Kyari said.
According to the APC timetable, the presidential primary election is to hold from 30th May to 1st June, Governorship is scheduled for 20th May House of Representatives primaries will hold on 24th May and Senate will hold on 25th May.
