The Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) has praised the nation’s bilateral relations with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
The Director-General of the Institute, Professor Eghosa Osaghae applauded the relations with Nigeria during an Ambassadorial forum with the theme; “Nigeria and Trinidad, Tobago Relations,” which was held in Lagos State.
He noted that this has improved trade, oil and gas, music industry and tourism among others.
Professor Osaghae said that Trinidad and Tobago had been at the forefront among countries in the world, which led the Pan-Africanism movement and had been fully together with Africa ever since.
He described Nigeria as a strong partner with Trinidad and Tobago over the years and the reason the High Commissioner to Nigeria has the concurrent accreditation to over ten other African countries.
The Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner to Nigeria, Wendell De Landro noted that his country planned to use its trademark steel band music to boost cultural exchange with Nigeria.
According to him, the two countries as doing their best to improve their relationship, especially in the area of trade and chamber of commerce.
Professor Osaghae noted that Nigeria and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago have enjoyed 47 years of unbroken diplomatic relations in the areas of arts, culture, and tourism as well as bilateral cooperation.
Some bilateral agreements between both countries include a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of health and medical services; a Standard Bilateral Trade Agreement between Trinidad and Tobago and Nigeria; a Bilateral Air Services Agreement and a Draft Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation among others.
The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is a single country made up of two separate islands in the Caribbean.
