Over three hundred thousand small holder farmers are being targeted for inclusive agricultural value chain project in Kaduna state.
Executive Director, National Agricultural Extension Research and liaison Services NAERLS, Professor, Emmanuel Ikani stated this in Kaduna at an agricultural stakeholders inception meeting organised by Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa, AGRA.
According to the ED, agriculture is a key component of Nigeria’s economy, contributing Twenty Three percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP.
He said the potentials in agriculture was very enormous but that most farmers do not have enough information.
Professor Ikani disclosed that the ongoing project would capture three hundred thousand farmers in Kaduna state alone.
While declaring the meeting open, Kaduna State Commissioner for agriculture, Mallam Ibrahim Usaini described the project as a great initiative that would assist the state in it’s agricultural diversification drive.
The theme of the project is building small holder farmers resilience and reducing vulnerability in the maize base system in Kaduna state through strengthened market participation .
