Rivers United continued to exert its superiority in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after a 3-2 victory against Dakkada FC in match day 30 in Uyo

Even without their top marksman, Ishaq Rafiu, who is currently representing the Super Eagles, Rivers United still found a way to claim all three points. Chijioke Akuneto scored his 12th goal of the season while Malachi Ohawume added two more as Rivers United beat Dakkada, increasing their points haul to 64.

Rivers United retained their seven point advantage at the top of the table, which they could extend to 10 with a home win over closest rivals Plateau United on Wednesday in Port Harcourt. The match could be NPFL’s title decider as both sides will be looking for a win.

Coach Stanley Eguma insists Rivers United have not yet achieved its quest for the NPFL title yet and said his team will fight to the end to get their hands on the coveted trophy.

Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma.

“We cannot start celebrating now because i believe that a lot of things will happen between now and the end of the season so we cannot relent,” Rivers United coach Eguma said. “It is still not yet over but i think we are the best side who have the chance to grab the title.”

“We still have some games to play and you can never predict the scoreline of those games. Plateau United also won heavily so its a sign that it’s not yet over, the title race is still on.”

“We can see the green light at the end of the tunnel and we also believe that it is possible we can do it but for now, it is not yet over,” Eguma concluded.
