Kwara government apprehends environmental violators

In its effort to ensure environmental sanity in the State, the Kwara state government has apprehended and prosecuted some environmental law offenders for violating the environmental laws.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Remilekun Banigbe disclosed this during the monitoring of the proceedings of the mobile courts set up at Odota, Airport axis and Flower Garden, GRA, Ilorin.

Banigbe stressed the need to set up the mobile courts where law violators will be fined immediately because some residents repeatedly violate the environmental law. He stated that the exercise will be a continuous process until serenity is attained in the State.

She said some of the culprits were sanctioned with an option of fine at the sum of N20,000 or a minimum of 1 month jail term or both, as sentenced by the courts.

Banigbe revealed that this act will caution people against environmental offences and reduce the habit of dumping indiscriminately and other environmental vices in the State.

The Commissioner added that this will further enhance the face-lift of the environment for the betterment of the populace.
