The Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State, North-East Nigeria has matriculated 333 students in its fourth matriculation ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kyari Mohammed, said this year, the Nigerian Army University admitted 392 students but only 333 of them had been duly registered in the school.

Professor Mohammed said the institution considered the matriculation serious activity because it is an initiation into the membership of the academic community of the prestigious university with all its rights and responsibilities.

He said the school is young, but growing fast as a fountain of learning, praying that they graduate at the end of the study.

Professor Mohammed said he expects the matriculated students to live by the rules and regulations of the institutions.

“Discipline is key to your training in this institution, therefore we urge you to abhor all forms of anti-social behaviour such as the violence of all forms but especially gender-based violence, drug and substance abuse, cultism, examination malpractice and all forms of misconduct. We have zero-tolerance for bad behaviour,” said Professor Mohammed.

He announced that the Nigerian Army University, Biu, had participated in its first outing at the Nigerian Universities Games, NUGA games this year, which took place at the University of Lagos.

“Our contingent won one gold and 2 bronze to put NAUB on the medal table. We proud sat at the middle of the medal table at 31t out of 75 universities that participated, making the best new university and the best university in the northeast ahead of much older universities. Let me use this opportunity to thank the athletes and their coaching crew for a job well done,” said Professor Mohammed.

He thanked two of its students, John Benjamin and Dorcas Chioma Paul for making the university proud, because John Benjamin won the Gold medal in the 1500 metres and bronze in 10000 metres, while Dorcas Chioma Paul won bronze in Taekwondo.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University, Biu, said the university had decided to offer both athletes full scholarships while planning to improve the sporting facilities in the institution, so as to attract more sportsmen and women into the university.
