A youth group in the All Progressives Congress, the Coalition of Progressive Youths in Nigeria and Diaspora (COPY-ND) has commended the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu for successfully conducting a peaceful and transparent presidential primary election.
In a press statement signed by the Director General of the COPY-ND, Dr Aminu Isyaku, the group said the emergence of Mr. Bola Tinubu shows the National chairman’s commitment to transparency and due process.
“Going by the successful outcome of the peaceful conduct of the most colourful primary election ever to be conducted in Nigeria, it is a total vindication of our respected National Chairman against such malicious accusations that he was not in support of the emergence of HE Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“On the contrary, the National Chairman, as an experienced hand, must be commended for managing the turbulent process of conducting the primary election of a ruling party like the APC and for physically performing all his statutory duties leading to the successful emergence of the flagbearer of the party today,” the statement read.
The APC group while reflecting on the build up to the presidential primary noted that it was the duty of the party’s National Chairman to explore all options in selecting a candidate including the consensus option.
“It is a fact, that the Consensus option, which is also constitutional was contemplated by the party, and we believe that tabling the option before the NWC for deliberation was part of the efforts in coordinating all divergent views from within and outside the party, efforts he began since his role in the Reconciliation Committee of the defunct CECPC that prepared the peaceful grounds for today’s successful primary convention,” he said.
“For us in the COPY-ND, we took that as normal practice in any democratic contest to have internal deliberations that would eventually lead to settlements among all political family members,” the group said.
The COPY-ND further congratulated Mr. Bola Tinubu for emerging as the APC Presidential Candidate and expressed optimism in his electoral ability to win the 2023 General Election.
