Anambra State Environment Commissioner pleads For proper waste disposal
Various communities in Anambra State have been urged to always inform appropriate authorities of refuse dump sites in their areas for onward evacuation.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Felix Odimegwu gave the advise while interacting with members of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, in Awka.
Mr Odimegwu, who described health as wealth, enjoined Presidents-General of various communities in the state to sensitize their people on the need to maintain clean, healthy environment and understand proper waste disposal methods.
He disclosed that the policy is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s clean and green philosophy calling on Ndi Anambra to take ownership of their environment.
The Commissioner added that sustainable measures have also been put in place for proper waste disposal and collection, and warned against dumping of refuse on unauthorized places such as drains, canals and on the roads.
Speaking on behalf of the Presidents-General, the President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Chief Titus Akpudo, commended Governor Soludo and Anambra State Ministry of Environment for their combined vision to build a clean and healthy Anambra and assured that the message would be taken down to their respective communities.
