As Nigeria marks Democracy Day on June 12, Adamawa State Governor in North-East Nigeria, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has pardoned six inmates serving various Prison terms in five Correctional Institutions across the State.

Governor Fintiri also commuted the death sentence of another inmate to life imprisonment.

In a statement the Governor said that the seven inmates were serving their terms in Yola old, Jada, Numan, Mubi, and Jimeta Correctional facilities.

The Governor acted in line with the recommendation of the Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

His decision was part of efforts to decongest some of the overburdened Correctional Centres as Nigeria marks Democracy Day.

Last year, Governor Fintiri equally pardoned forty-six inmates serving Prison terms across Correctional Institutions in Adamawa State.
