Nigerian Army vows to Support Civil Authority

The Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, COAS says Army must remain poised to discharge its constitutional roles in support of the civil authority without compromise.

The Army Chief disclosed this during the Closing Ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff Second Quarter Conference 2022  in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

According to him, Commanders were reminded that as the 2023 General Elections approaches, troops under their command must remain apolitical and operate professionally.

General Yahaya said: “Army must continuously review their contingency plans for the provision of security support through an effective mechanism of cooperation with other security stakeholders.” 

 

He noted that as earlier highlighted during his opening remarks, the reviewed Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct for Operation SAFE CONDUCT guiding troops during the upcoming 2023 General Elections will be distributed in earnest.

He called for the sensitization of troops on their contents and implore them to operate in accordance with extant provisions throughout the period.

It is worthy to mention that a key session of this conference focused on the logistics appraisal of the Nigerian Army under my leadership.” 

According to him, the logistics presentations have revealed appreciable improvements in our overall logistics and maintenance endeavours.

He said: “the recent establishment of the Directorate of Housing under the Department of Army Logistics as well as the development of a comprehensive housing and energy policy for the Nigerian Army are laudable steps which are expected to ensure efficient service delivery.

CAOS noted that the policies when finalized would provide a comprehensive framework for the allocation of accommodation as well as the prudent utilization of energy in all Nigerian Army barracks and cantonments.

He expressed his appreciation to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR and other political leaders for their unflinching support to the Nigerian Army.

He reaffirmed the continuous unalloyed loyalty of all officers and men of the Nigerian Army to the President Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

He assured the President of eliminating all threats to national security in collaboration with sister Services and other security agencies.
