Table Tennis: Egypt’s Hana Goda Debuts At Mediterranean Games

Following a historic outing at the 2022 ITTF Africa Cup in Lagos where she scooped the title as the youngest ever champion, 14 year-old Egyptian Hana Goda will be making a debut at the 2022 Mediterranean games holding from June 25th – July 6th, 2022 in Algeria.

The Mediterranean Games is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea in Africa, Asia and Europe. The games which is in its 19th edition, will see athletes from 26 Mediterranean countries taking part in the international event.

The 2022 Mediterranean games will be held at the Oran Olympics stadium in the Bir El Djir suburb of Oran, Algeria.

Another debutant in the Egyptian team is the reigning African Championships champion Mariam Alhodaby, while Dina Meshref will return with one mission – to defend the women’s singles gold medal.

Fresh from reclaiming the African Cup, Omar Assar will have another chance to reclaim the men’s singles gold medal he won exactly nine years ago at the 2013 edition in Turkey. Assar is joined by Mohammed El-Beiali and Ahmed Saleh to complete the list for the African giants to Algeria.

Hosts Algeria has put forward a big squad led by Sofiane Boudjadja, 2020 Olympian Larbi Bouriah and Chaichi Abdelbasset among others.

Tunisia boasts of a team of talented youngsters whose growth was apparent at the 2022 ITTF Africa Cup held in Lagos. Players such as Mariam Zoghlami, Fadwa Garci, Aboubaker Bourass and Youssef Ben Attia will be hoping to ruffle shoulders with the best players at the games.

Libya has Habib Magbrei as its lone representative in Table tennis, while Morocco is yet to release the list of its players for the games.

Other top players to watch out for at the games are Simon Gauzy of France, Marcos Freitas and Jieni Shao of Portugal among others.
