Kaduna State government has officially launched an E-learning portal known as ’’Nigeria Learning Passport’’ to make learning affordable and easy to access for both primary, secondary and the general public.
During the portal launch in Kaduna, the State Commissioner for Education Hajiya Halima Lawal, said the gesture was in line with global best practices in technological advancement in efforts to solve challenges in the educational sector.
She said the government had earlier distributed 800 desktops to various schools and 7,000 ICT tablets to advance the policy for the effective take-off of the policy.
Halima noted that the state has also implemented 27 percent budgetary allocation in the education sector which is above the UNESCO benchmark of 25 percent to advance education.
According to her, the state government was collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Education, Microsoft, and UNICEF for the success of its policies and therefore called on parents to support government efforts.
A representative of UNICEF at the event, Mr. Francis Elisha, commended the government for adopting the policy which he said will enable students both at the rural and urban areas to study online and offline without much stress.
Mr. Elisha noted that there was already an established partnership with a telecommunication provider in the country for the policy to succeed.
