Institute’s D-G Condemns Attack On Presidential Convoy, Mourns Barkindo

The Director general, Michael Imoudu Institute For Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Kwara State, Comrade Issa Aremu has condemned the attack on the advance convoy of President  Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State on Tuesday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2022 procurement bidding of MINILS, Aremu described the attack on president’s convoy as unfortunate.

He also mourned the demise of the Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Muhammad Barkindo.

 

He described Barkindo’s death as,” a big loss to Nigeria, Africa and oil producing countries. It’s also a personal loss to me, because we were school mates in the university. But, it is not how long but how well; this is the lesson for us all. Barkindo’s legacies speak volume.

 

Aremu commiserated with the  Barkindo family and President Buhari on the demise of the OPEC scribe.

 

On the procurement bidding, the DG said it was based on the budgetary approval for MINILS, adding that, ” It involves both the technical and and financial bid. This is because the capital budget has just been released. We are doing this exercise in strict compliance with the Procurement Act.

                               

He thanked the two local industrial unions in the Institution for their cooperation, noting that,”  they are on strike, so, it takes their understanding for this programme to hold.”

 

Aremu who lamented that research institutions in the country are poorly funded called on all  stakeholders to join the unions in appealing to the government to improve the funding of the research institutions.

 

He emphasized on the need for the contractors to execute good and standard job for MINILS.
