The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria has threatened to boycott the forthcoming Local Government Council Election organising by Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission EBSIEC, if it fails to remove the exorbitant fee imposed on Political parties.

The APGA State Chairman, Mr Okorouka Ricky disclosed this to Journalists after their Executive Council meeting held at the Party Secretariat in Abakaliki the State capital.

The APGA Boss informed that “the party may not participate in forthcoming Local Government Council Election unless the EBSIEC remove the exorbitant nomination fee of one million naira (N1,000,000.00) and Two hundred thousand naira (N200,000.00) for the position of Chairman and ward Councillor respectively which was imposed by EBSIEC to all political parties that are going to participate in the Council Election.

“In our Executive Council meeting today, we involved our candidates who are contesting various positions under the party and we equally agreed that the date for the Council Election should be shifted from the slated 30th July, 2022,  as a matter of fact, the date is too prompt.”

Consequently, he pleaded with the State Government to fund the Election if it’s wants other Political parties to participate.

“Nobody pays anything to Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, I was part of the election in 2015 where I contested for Member House of Assembly which I never paid any fee to INEC. EBSIEC should do the same or else, APGA would challenge such decision of EBSIEC in the Court of Law.

Also during the meeting, the party nominated those who will replace those who have withdrawn from contesting for Senate and House of Representatives under the party,” Okorouka added.

He said Election for the replacement will be on Tuesday 12th July, 2022 at the party’s Secretariat which Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has been officially communicated to come and monitor the election.
