The Steering Committee of the Presidential Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy met on Thursday to discuss the implementation of the N400billion allocated for poverty reduction in the 2022 Budget.

A member of the committee, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa State, stated this while speaking with State House correspondents after the committee’s meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Governor Sule said that N350billion out of the N400billion was allocated to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for the expansion of its various programmes.

“The Humanitarian Ministry is going to take N350billion for the expansion of the various programmes like GEEP(Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme), Conditional Cash Transfer, Farmer Money, Market Money and the rest of that,” he stated.

Governor Sule said that the Steering Committee had at its last meeting set up various working groups to prepare what is required in the implementation of the budget.

He said that based on the recommendations of the working groups and approvals by the president, the committee met and discussed the implementation.

According to Gov. Sule, the balance of N50billion will be reserved for other programmes in agriculture, construction of rural roads and electricity, particularly solar energy.

Presidential Muhammed Buhari set up the Steering Committee in June last year to oversee the implementation of the poverty reduction and growth strategy geared towards his plans to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
