The Crack Squad of Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested part of a syndicate of criminals who specialize in vandalizing and stealing Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC’s) armoured cables and assorted other electrical installations.
The Ebonyi Police Command Spokesperson, Mr. Chris Anyanwu disclosed this to Journalists at the Police Headquarters in Abakaliki the State Capital on the success recorded in their recent operation.
Anyanwu said that on the 9th of July, 2022, the criminals conspired and went to Amalekwuna Ameka in Ezza South Local Government Area and vandalized the EEDC transformer and other electrical installations thereto, carting away armored cables yet to be estimated in monetary terms.
“Also On 11th July, 2022, led by intelligence, the Crack Squad of the Command arrested the under listed persons in connection to the crime. Onyekachi Igwe male 35yrs – the owner of a white bus with Reg. No. AWK 173 XC with which the exhibits were collected. He hails from Inyimagu Amuzu in Ezza South LGA, Okemiri Michael male, 33yrs of Ndiegbe Village in Igbeagu Izzi LGA, Ogechi Umoke female of 21yrs – a sales girl at the scrap shop Automobile Site Abakaliki. She is a native of Ukwuakparata Izzi LGA, Nwonu Ugochukwu male of 18yrs – Sales person and an indigene of Inyimagu Onuebonyi, Izzi LGA, Nwegu Ikechukwu male of 21yrs from Agbaja Unuphu“

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Command, Mr. Aliyu Garba hereby encourages community leaders and all indigenes of the State not to allow such vandals, vagabonds and idiots to exist and operate such criminalities in their various communities.
Aliyu advised the Leaders to evolve and sustain the practice of Community Policing via prompt information to the Police and other law enforcement agencies. “Such proactive measures if adopted, no doubt becomes a sine quanon to achieving peace and development in our various communities”
Number plates
The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Police Command, reiterates the words of the Inspector-General of Police, that all vehicle owners with spy number plates should remove them from their vehicles and desist from using them or even return them to the nearest Police Station, otherwise offenders stand the risk of being arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
Furthermore, the CP warns all those who still flout the order on Prohibition on use of Siren, Non-factory fitted tinted glasses, and covered vehicle numbers plates to refrain from such conduct or stand the challenge of being apprehended and prosecuted too.
He urged people to live up to their civic responsibilities and be more patriotic to our fatherland.
Meanwhile, the suspected criminals plead Innocence as they don’t know anything about the alleged crime.
