England Women’s keeper Hampton tests positive for Covid-19
England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of her team’s Euro 2022 quarterfinal against Spain.
With England’s women due to face Spain in Brighton on Wednesday, the Football Association said the 21-year-old would be “monitored regularly with a view to returning to the squad as soon as possible.”
England manager Sarina Wiegman missed last Friday’s group stage win against Northern Ireland following a positive coronavirus test.
Wiegman may be absent again for the Spain clash at the Amex Stadium after she watched Monday’s session training from a distance with a mask on.
Hampton, who has been on the bench for England’s three Euro games so far, is the second Lionesses player in the squad to test positive for the virus during the tournament.
Lotte Wubben-Moy missed the group stage victory against Norway with the illness.
