Nigerian Senate passes Electricity Reforms Bill

The Nigerian Senate has passed the Electricity Reforms Bill which empowers States as well as individuals with the requisite capacity, to generate and transmit electricity within their territories.

The Senate has also established by law, a distinct tribunal responsible for solely adjudicating matters concerning electricity and other stakeholder issues within the power sector.

These were parts of the highlights of the new Legislation for the electric power sector in Nigeria passed by the Senate on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Titled; “Nigeria Electric Power Sector Reforms Act, 2022 the new piece of Legislation now replaces the 2005 Act which was used to unbundle the power holding company of Nigerian PHCN.

Senate now awaits concurrence by the House of Representatives before the Bill would be transmitted to President Buhari for his assent.
